Musician/activist Kenna and a team of people, including singer Mark Foster of the band Foster The People, recently climbed to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in an effort to raise awareness of the global clean water crisis.

Once at the 16,000-foot-high summit of Kilimanjaro, the world’s tallest mountain, Kenna and Foster made a video about their experience and why they embarked on it. You can watch that video here below.

Foster tweeted a photo yesterday from the mountain through the band’s official Twitter account after he’d reached the top. The group he was with held up a sign stating Water = Life.

Now, I’ve never heard of Foster The People, but apparently they’re an indie pop sensation (I had to look up what the hell indie pop is because, huh?) and they have this big hit “Pumped Up Kicks.” So being a metalhead, they’re not on my radar, so now that I’ve done some research on them, I’ll just [no offense] erase what I’ve heard from my memory banks and leave their music to the youngsters who dig them. But, because Foster did this to bring awareness to the global clean water crisis (plus, I read a few things he’s said and like what I found out), I’m more than happy to use my own platform here to help him spread the message. Plus, Kilimanjaro rocks (literally) and getting to the top of that baby is a major accomplishment – many people have lost their lives climbing the Tanzanian mountain. Basically, once you head up there, there’s no guarantee you’re getting down. So, if this dude – who, yeah, his music is what I consider “lite” – has the balls to scale this mountain for a good cause, I’m willing to bring it to your attention.
