Movie Filmed Around Metallica Concert Gets Official Title, Release Date
  |  @   |

An official title and release date have been announced for an upcoming movie, in which the story is related to and unfolds around an actual concert by legendary heavy metal band Metallica.

The movie will be called Metallica Through The Never, and it will be released on August 9, 2013 in 3D.

It’s directed by Nimrod Antal, whose previous credits include Kontroll and the reboot Predators, and stars Dane DeHaan, who starred in the surprise hit Chronicle and recently landed the role of Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Metallica Through The Never follows a member of the band’s crew (DeHaan) who is sent out on an urgent mission while the band is rocking out to a sold out live crowd, and finds his world being unexpectedly turned upside down.

The movie comes from indie film marketing and distribution company Picturehouse, which was born in 2005 but later had to shut down. This is the first title in their revival.

The band released a statement about the project:

“Like your friends in ‘TALLICA, Picturehouse is truly independent, take big chances and often think outside of the box. Founder Bob Berney has overseen the releases of two of the most successful independent films ever, ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ and ‘The Passion of the Christ,’ as well as many other cutting-edge, critically acclaimed and award-winning films.”

Berney also commented on the movie, saying:

“Nim and the band have made a film that really captures the spirit of METALLICA and their millions of loyal fans. It’s an entertaining genre film with a concert inside it, a fun ride featuring an exciting young actor, Dane DeHaan. It’s a very cool project to reboot Picturehouse with.”

According to Metallica drummer and founder Lars Ulrich, the movie is inspired by the Led Zepplin flick The Song Remains the Same, with some key differences:

“There are four members in LED ZEPPELIN, four members in METALLICA, it’s a full-length movie, and there’s a lot in this film that does not take place onstage. The major difference is that the stuff that takes place offstage in the METALLICA movie does not feature any members of METALLICA. It’s two separate worlds “” a METALLICA show and a story that unfolds in a parallel universe “” and at some point they intertwine.”

As for the parts of Metallica Through The Never that involve the actual concert, they were filmed this past August during two shows the band performed in Vancouver.

It will be interesting to see how the movie plays out and if die hard fans will respond positively or not. This will likely hinge on whether or not the movie itself is actually good or if the selling point is the fact that there’s a Metallica show embedded within the film to check out.

What do you say, Metallica fans and movie fans alike, will you see a movie that takes place while a real concert is going on?
