$5 MP3 Album Deal: Bob Marley And The Wailers ‘Live’
  |

Live, by Bob Marley, the monarch of reggae and all vibrations positive for all people and all time, is now available on MP3 format from Amazon this month for only $5.00.

Instantly, this 1975 live album starts cooking and doesn’t build slowly to fever pitch as most live albums do; it starts that way and stays that way from first note to last. Reggae can sometimes be quickly dismissed as a repetitious form of music, with tight rat-at-tat groove line from a bass guitar, percussive hi-hat and rim shots, snaky clavinets and guitars that swell during the opening and closing within the measures of the songs. It is exactly those details which enhance this album, however, as the urgent messages of the body, mind, and soul politic of the late Bob Marley, still one of the most revered and beloved iconic figures ever to branch from the musical scene, utilize the style to the hilt and squeeze every last drop out of it possible, creating results which not only define the genre, but lift it to the stratosphere as well.

Marley and his Wailers are at an absolute peak here with Live; the crowd is almost like an instrument themselves, as every note and passage sung by Marley is absorbed for full impact by them. Burning versions of “No Woman, No Cry,” the infectious and motivating “Get Up Stand Up” and “I Shot the Sheriff,” (which of course became a number one stateside smash hit for Eric Clapton in 1974) are immensely well known, but the other tracks on the album, “Burnin’ and Lootin’,” “Lively Up Yourself,” and “Kinky Reggae” hold equal weight with the crowd, with Marley’s catalog and with his attitude of hope, which still drives and motivates individuals to this very day. All these elements combined together, Live remains an album that stands up there with the great live recordings of all time, in which the jubilant sense of fresh escapism and a banded and bonded together collectivity create a performance which only solidified what Bob Marley meant and continues to mean to so many people.
