Titan Books

Compiling the three companion books from Titan Books, Firefly: A Celebration is perfectly captured in a leather effect binding that really gives this anniversary compendium that extra bit of oomph. From the moment you first hold this edition in your hands, you know it’s something special.

Spec. Tac. U. Lar. Seriously, this book is the epitome of a Browncoat’s dream. It contains every script from every episode, completely uncut. And if you take the time to read them, you can actually hear the voices, the inflections, the passion. But even better are the blurbs from the cast and crew that are peppered throughout the scripts, revealing their feelings associated with each episode. It really lends some depth to this short-lived series.

The actual interviews with the cast and crew are phenomenal as well. Each person has a different outlook of what they brought to or took from the show. The actors all gave their characters life but it was their ability to work off each other that really sold the family dynamic aboard Serenity. This was perhaps the greatest asset to the show, their ability to harness all this talent and create a group that we could embrace not in spite of the character flaws but because of them.

For the more diehard nerds, there are complete breakdowns of weapons, ships, clothing, you name it. Explanations of some of these items are simple at times, complicated at others. But everything seems to have a reason as to why and how Joss Whedon put it together. I’ll admit it, I learned a lot about the show that I didn’t know or even realize was there. But that’s the ‘verse for you, always more complicated than you knew.

Probably more obvious than everything else is the visual presentation of the book. Loads of rare and unreleased photographs and drawings are heavily distributed throughout the chapters. Add to that the beautifully frameable pics in the back of the book and you get a real art treasury. Heck, it even has a fake monetary note included. They really went all out on this edition and it was my pleasure to receive a copy.

No Firefly aficionado will be able to say no to this. Of course, the fact that they got the original writers to put in some brand new stories certainly doesn’t hurt anything. As a fan of the show, and of most of Whedon’s works over the years, I have a deep appreciation for the time and effort it took to compile this volume. That said, I hope that anyone with the same love for all things Firefly will be able to acquire this, it is fantastic. I also must advise that this would be an awesome gift for that special someone, though if you open it you might find yourself wanting to keep it for your very own.

  1. So, my question is, if I have all three companion books, do I have all the material in this book? Thanks for any info!

  2. If you have all three then you have most of the info, but there are some new stories and other additions, including the photos, art and currency.

  3. Thanks so much!!! It is currently out of stock on Amazon, but think I will order it when it comes back in stock!

  4. You can do that or check your local bookstores. I’m sure even a few of the comic and hobby shops picked up a few for their regulars, maybe someone didn’t pick theirs up…
