‘After Earth’ Trailer: Jaden Smith Learns Harsh Lesson In Survival & Father-Son Bonding
  |  @   |

The first trailer for M. Night Shyamalan‘s After Earth was nothing more than a tease that can be best described as an announcement that the film was his latest directorial effort. There was nothing much to look at, but what was given in the trailer looked pretty cool to say the least. The visuals were just as fascinating to the viewers as it was to the characters (played by Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith), and now a new trailer is giving us a better sense of the world that surrounds these characters and the story that will hopefully keep the audiences interested.

Watch the new trailer here below.

Assuming that Shyamalan sticks to his shtick, there will be a huge twist that we don’t see coming. Obviously the “this is Earth after 1,000 years” isn’t the big reveal; “After” is in the title after all, but surely there is something to come that isn’t in this trailer.

But After Earth will come a few months after Joseph Kosinski’s Oblivion, a film that almost has the same premise of human inhabitants on a deserted Earth. Despite that minor similarity, what After Earth has going for it is the survivalist plot. It should be interesting to see how these characters survive on a planet after it has been left uninhabited by humans for 1,000 years. Things are bound to have changed or evolved since their departure.

Here’s the premise:

A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

Check out the trailer in HD on Apple. After Earth opens in theaters and IMAX on June 7th.
