Director Sam Raimi Not Planning A Return Trip To ‘Oz’
  |  @   |

Yesterday we reported that Disney was moving forward with a sequel to Oz The Great and Powerful, by hiring Mitchell Kapner to pen the script. Experts are predicting that the film, which was released on March 8, 2013, will gross around the $80-$90 million range in its opening weekend. With numbers like that, it’s not a surprise that the studio would green light a sequel for the highly anticipated film.

Unfortunately it seems like one of the pieces won’t be returning to the land of Oz. Bleeding Cool has found out that director Sam Raimi will not be likely to return to direct Oz The Great and Powerful 2. Check out his spoilerish reasons for not returning here below.

Here is Raimi’s spoilerish response to not returning to direct a sequel:

I haven’t planned on directing the sequel. I did leave some loose ends for another director if they want to make the picture. I tried to make it a complete ending, so that the audience would be fulfilled, but I also let Evanora and Theodora get away.

I was attracted to this story but I don’t think the second one would have the thing I would need to get me interested.

Well since Kapner was hired to write a sequel, it’s safe to say that the next director would explore the loose ends left in Oz The Great and Powerful, despite its ending. Raimi doesn’t quite say that he is completely out and leaves the door open for a return.

So what do you think? Do you agree with Raimi’s decision not to come back? Who should direct if he doesn’t return?
