David Goyer To Direct ‘The Count Of Monte Cristo’ Remake
  |  @   |

If you are at all familiar with Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, then you might recall that screenwriter David Goyer had a hand in the scripts that created that particular world. While The Dark Knight was his only writing credit in that trilogy, he was credited with creating the stories for all three movies.

Now Goyer is setting his sights on directing an adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo using the same formula that was used on The Dark Knight.

THR is reporting that Goyer will be making his next directorial effort an adaptation of the classic literary novel. This isn’t the first time the well-known screen writer has tapped into the directing world. He directed Blade Trinity – he also wrote the script for it as well as the previous two films. However unlike Blade Trinity, he won’t be writing the script. Instead Michael Robert Johnson will pen the script. The screenwriter wrote scripts for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes and Paul W.S. Anderson’s upcoming Pompeii.

Here’s how THR describes the novel:

Set in early 19th century France, the tale centers on Edmond Dantes, a young man betrayed and falsely jailed. While on a prison island, Dantes meets a fellow inmate who not only educates the man but also points him in the direction of a fortune. When Dantes finally escapes after many years, he re-emerges in Paris society primed to take revenge against the men who took away his love and his freedom.

The pairing couldn’t be any sweeter really. If they wanted to make a Dark Knight-esque film, who better to do it then the guy who is credited with creating the stories for the three films, and who better to write it then the guy who gave a solid twist on the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s books.

If anything this should be a very interesting take on classic literature.
