Gary Oldman has signed on to star in Child 44, a ’50s-era Soviet thriller being directed by Daniel Espinosa, the director of Safe House.

Oldman joins his Dark Knight Rises co-star Tom Hardy on the cast, as well as Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Prometheus star Noomi Rapace.

The movie follows a member of the Soviet police (Hardy), whose own government has grown suspicious of him as he investigates a string of child murders.

Oldman will be playing the head of police who are taking a closer look at Hardy’s potentially questionable character, and Rapace plays Hardy’s “chameleon-like” wife.

Oldman’s co-star in the upcoming RoboCop remake, Joel Kinnaman, also stars here, playing an ambitious and murderous co-worker.

Child 44 is adapted from the Tom Rob Smith novel, and is aiming to begin production on June 10th.
