Neil Gaiman To Bring One Of His Characters To Marvel
  |  @   |

I’m trying to not outright spoil one of Marvel Comics stories, even if they are willing to, because I’m not that guy. So, here’s the vague details: Writer Neil Gaiman will once again be doing some work for Marvel Comics this year, and he is bringing with him a character that he created for a different company twenty years ago.

That’s about as much I can say without getting into details, so beware spoilers ahead.

The New York Times has announced that Gaiman will be bringing his character Angela, which he co-created with artist Todd McFarlane, over to Marvel Comics, and her first appearance will be at the end of the current Age of Ultron miniseries. Angela first appeared in Spawn #9 for Image Comics, but has been tied up in a lawsuit for over a decade, but thanks to recent court dealings, Gaiman has gained ownership of the character it seems, and has decided to bring the character over to Marvel.

Spawn #9

Angela will first appear in the Marvel U in a special scene drawn by Marvel chief creative officer Joe Quesada. Marvel editor Axel Alonso described her scene as “like the post-credit scenes in one of our Marvel studio movies.” She will then show up in Guardians of the Galaxy #5, to be co-written by Gaiman and Brian Michael Bendis.

I’m sure I’m not the only one to find this move a little odd, but what the heck, let’s just roll with it. It’s not like the Angela character has a whole lot of backstory to drag with it and it could make for an interesting story. We’ll just have to wait and see how this one goes.
