IDW To Publish Joe Hill’s ‘Thumbprint’
  |  @   |

Fans of the writing team of Joe Hill and Jason Ciaramella will be pleased to know that they are teaming up once again to bring Hill’s novella Thumbprint into the comics world. IDW Publishing will release the three-issue miniseries, with the first issue set to hit stores on June 19th, 2013.

Thumbprint is the story of private Mallory Grenna, a dishonorably discharged member of the US Army who worked at the notorious Abu Ghraib prison. Grenna has returned home, but the crimes she has committed are not content to stay a world away. The series promises that “over Thumbprint’s three gripping issues, fans will truly feel what it’s like to be haunted “¦and hunted.”

Check out the cover for the first issue below.

Hill and Ciaramella last teamed up to bring another of Joe Hill’s series to comics with The Cape, also from IDW. Ciaramella had this to say about the upcoming series:

“Bringing Thumbprint to life was a challenge for me. Not because the prose was particularly difficult to adapt, but because the themes the story explores are haunting, and deeply disturbing. I had to step out of myself in order to capture the true horror of it without letting my personal agendas seep in.”

The series will feature art by Vic Malhotra. Hill describes Malhotra’s art as being reminiscent of Dave Mazzucchelli’s work on Batman: Year One. Hill also added:

“I was blown away by Jason’s work on The Cape, and wanted more. Thumbprint is right in his wheelhouse: Jay has a feel for the psychological flaws that lead a basically good person down the wrong path. And no one writes action quite like Jay – he turns brutality into surreal comedy and back again faster than a magician turning a scarf into a dove.”

If you enjoyed The Cape, it sounds like Thumbprint will be a worthy follow up. And if you didn’t read The Cape, you should check it out and then give Thumbprint a shot.
