A director has been chosen for Point Break, a remake of the 1991 action flick of the same name that starred Keanu Reeves and the late Patrick Swayze.
It’s being reported that Ericson Core has been set to direct the remake. Core has worked as a cinematographer on movies like Payback, the original Fast and the Furious, and Daredevil, and made his directorial debut on the 2006 underdog movie Invincible, which starred Mark Wahlberg as a bartender who finds a way to try out and play for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Unlike the original Point Break, which was set around the sport of surfing as an FBI agent infiltrates a criminal ring, the remake will instead use international extreme sports.
The Academy Award-winning director of The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, Kathryn Bigelow, made the ’91 original. But, considering 2001’s Fast and the Furious was basically a remake in its own way, Core should have a decent idea where to go with this new take on the premise.
No actors have been cast for Point Break yet, and no official release date has been set.
