’21 Jump Street,’ ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. The World’ Writer To Pen ‘Weird Science’ Remake
  |  @   |

Writer and actor Michael Bacall, who worked on the screenplays for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World with Edgar Wright, found footage party flick Project X, and the movie remake of the ’80s TV series 21 Jump Street, has been hired to pen the script for Weird Science for Universal Pictures.

The movie will be a remake of the 1985 comedy of the same name written and directed by the late, great John Hughes, which starred Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith as a couple of nerds who accidentally create the perfect woman using a computer. What they end up with, however, is much more than they ever expected. The original also starred Kelly LeBrock, Bill Paxton, and Robert Downey Jr.

Usually remakes are bad news, but considering Bacall’s track record so far, there’s a chance this one could be a good time. Much like 21 Jump Street, the Weird Science remake is being developed as an edgier comedy than the original. Whether that means PG-13 or R-rated edgy has not yet been determined by the studio.

The remake will be produced by Joel Silver, who also produced the original.

Bacall also has a lengthy acting resume, consisting of numerous TV appearances and roles in movies like Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchanined, and Gangster Squad.

Do you think a Weird Science remake could work?
