Watch Now: The Latest ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Clip Strikes A Few Familiar Notes

We are less than a month away from the release of the long-in-the-works tentpole sequel Star Trek Into Darkness and now that the last of the trailers has been released it is time for the tricking out of short clips from the movie to begin. Today we have one that those of you lucky enough to catch the nine-minute preview last December before IMAX 3D screenings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will remember.

You can watch it here below.

Here’s the set-up: Spock (Zachary Quinto) is trapped inside a volcano about to erupt and his Enterprise shipmates are trying futilely to convince him to let them violate the Prime Directive and rescue him from becoming a steaming side order of roasted Vulcan. Spock won’t have any of it, because after all the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the…well that sounds mighty familiar.

Star Trek Into Darkness opens in 2D and 3D on May 17, 2013.
