‘Ted’ & ‘Battleship’ Producer Scott Stuber Developing ‘Gears Of War’ Movie With Epic Games
  |  @   |

A movie adaptation of the hit video game series Gears of War is no new thing—first being picked up by New Line Cinema in 2007, with Len Wiseman (Underworld, Total Recall [2012]) set to direct. As with many recent video game hits, a movie version has been discussed many times, and, just like most of them, the Gears attempt has found no success in making it to the silver screen.

But that Hollywood machine does not give up so easily.

It’s being reported that Scott Stuber has now taken hold of the project, and is now working with Gears of War developer Epic Games to develop a new attempt at making the movie a reality.

Stuber’s producing credits include The Kingdom, Role Models, The Wolfman, Safe House, Battleship, Ted, and Identity Thief. His upcoming films include 47 Ronin and the next Seth MacFarlane comedy, A Million Ways to Die in the West.

No writer, director, stars, or studios are attached to the project at the moment, though Stuber and company will be taking it out to find interested parties soon. He also has a first-look deal with Universal Pictures, though it’s not known what their interest in making the movie is.

Gears of War follows Marcus Fenix, a prisoner who re-assumes his position as a COG (Coalition of Ordered Governments) soldier along with squad mate Dom Santiago and others to take on a greater threat, the Locust Horde, a race of nasty beasties who emerge from under the earth to destroy all of mankind. The original game has had two sequels and one prequel so far.

Other huge video game titles that have tried and have been failing their attempts to make a movie include Halo and BioShock. Much the same as those two projects, budget will be an issue in making a Gears movie happen. Unlike them, however, Gears already has a solid cinematic storyline and great characters to work with. These things should make a movie adaptation a little easier to figure out, if they can find the talent and money necessary.

Do you want to see a Gears of War movie happen?
