Watch This: Trailer For Indie Thriller ‘A Single Shot’ Starring Sam Rockwell
  |  @   |

A Single Shot is directed by David M. Rosenthal (Janie Jones) and written by Matthew F. Jones, who adapted his own 1996 novel of the same name.

The tense crime drama stars Sam Rockwell (Seven Psychopaths, The Way, Way Back) as John Moon, a destitute hunter who gets involved in an accidental crime, all while trying to get his estranged family back together. William H. Macy, Melissa Leo, Ted Levine, Jason Isaacs, Kelly Reilly, and Jeffrey Wright co-star in the film, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year and played at the Tribeca Film Festival last month.

Stylistically speaking, A Single Shot is reminiscent of Winter’s Bone, The Deer Hunter, and the Coen Brothers’ Blood Simple and Miller’s Crossing. Rosenthal has assembled an impressive cast for his backwoods crime drama, but it’s Rockwell I’m most excited about.

Rockwell is, in my very humble opinion, one of the finest American actors out there with memorable roles in films like Moon, Frost/Nixon, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, and The Green Mile just to name a few.

In recent years, Rockwell has showcased his comedic talents with films like Seven Psychopaths, The Sitter, Iron Man 2, and Gentlemen Broncos, but A Single Shot looks to be Rockwell’s triumphant return to drama, and I can’t wait to see what he brings to Rosenthal’s film.

The tragic death of a beautiful young girl starts a tense and atmospheric game of cat and mouse between hunter John Moon and the hardened backwater criminals out for his blood.
