12-Episode ’24’ Revival With Kiefer Sutherland Back As Jack Bauer Made Official
  |  @   |

We recently found out that Fox was considering a limited revival of 24, their hit drama that began in 2001 and ran until its final episode in 2010, and that star Kiefer Sutherland was in talks to reprise his role as Jack Bauer. The news came after multiple failed attempts at making a movie version of the show.

Now comes word that everything is official: 24 will be coming back for a limited series run, and Sutherland is locked in to play Bauer again (obviously—there’s no way they’d do the show without him).

This new limited run of 24 will be called 24: Live Another Day, and will only run for 12 episodes, which could be a little strange for those used to the real-time 24 hours/episodes in a day/season. But according to showrunner Howard Gordon, who pitched the revival to Fox, it will be even better using only 12 episodes. He feels that the best of each previous season of the show was present in about 12 episodes, with the other episodes acting as “connective tissue.” The new run will still look like the same old real-time 24, with some of the quieter hours extracted.

The current goal is to possibly have 24: Live Another Day ready to begin this time next year and into the summer of 2014. If all goes well, it could set up new 12-episode limited 24 runs from time to time when the cast and crew are able to do it.

Are you excited about Fox greenlighting a new run of 24?

  1. I’m very excited about the return of 24. I agree with what Howard Gordon said, the show did tend to drag during the filler episodes. I look forward to the new condensed 24.
