AMC CEO Wants ‘The Walking Dead’ On The Air Until 2022 … At Least
  |  @   |

Most shows take one season at a time, and decide to either cancel or renew based on the latest season’s numbers (though it’s silly at this point in time to pay too much attention to the numbers given how many different ways we watch TV). AMC does this as well, though they’re not exactly keeping their intentions a special secret.

The Walking Dead is one of the biggest shows on TV right now, and, despite a few speedbumps along the way regarding the creative forces behind the show, it’s continued to score huge numbers and a growing fan base. You have to assume that network execs have long term plans for shows like this, even if they do wait to greenlight a new season, but AMC Networks CEO Josh Sapan is sharing his plans from the top of a peppermint patty mountain.

At the Barclays Global Technology, Media, and Telecommunications Conference recently, Sapan had this to say:

“We hope that zombies live forever and we’ve just begun to find out what the post-apocalyptic world is like. So that we’ll be sitting here at the Barclays conference in 2022 discussing the fact that Walking Dead is not over “¦ at that point, I think any one of the companies will have replaced the United States government and we’ll be in a complete free enterprise world in which there are no nations.”

Now obviously AMC didn’t just greenlight ten more seasons of the hit zombie series or anything, and the likelihood of most shows running for that long is very, very slim. But still, fans of the show will be elated to know that AMC wants it to go as long as humanly possible…so long as the numbers stay strong.

How long do you want to see The Walking Dead run for?

  1. I’ll keep watching until it’s not watchable. Simple as that.
