Hugh Jackman Needs A Compelling Reason To Continue On As The Wolverine
  |  @   |

As Hugh Jackman slowly gets ready for a worldwide press tour for The Wolverine, the actor is making one big announcement about his future playing as the titular character that has been the face of the X-Men film franchise for almost over a decade. The last time he appeared as the character for a lead part was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and though the film was mildly successful at the box office, it was panned by critics, and even though his fans and fans of the character are eager to see The Wolverine, Jackman feels as though this may be his last go around with the character, unless there is a compelling reason for him to come back.

In a recent interview, Jackman told Entertainment Weekly:

“I wasn’t even sure after the first [stand-alone] film if I would do another, I won’t say never, because I’m still loving it. But there would have to be a pretty compelling reason.”

Producer Hutch Parker then chimed in about possibly recasting the part saying that it “feels somewhat blasphemous.”

It should be noted that The Wolverine won’t exactly be the last time we see Jackman unleash those adamantium claws. The actor will appear in Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Days Of Future Past. That film would mark the seventh time the actor has portrayed the character.

Even though Jackman feels that he needs a compelling reason to come back, a nice big check from Fox could be more than enough for him to play the character again. But surely Jackman is starting to feel somewhat fatigued playing the same character over and over again, and it’s only natural for someone who feels that tired of a character to move beyond it.

Directed by James Mangold, The Wolverine opens in theaters on July 26, 2013.
