Jon Chu Will Return To Direct ‘G.I. Joe 3’
  |  @   |

Paramount Pictures saw some box office success in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and now they want more. The studio is starting off by signing on Jon Chu to direct the tentatively titled G.I. Joe 3. Little is known about the plot for the sequel, but producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura stated that he did want to see more ninja story in the sequel, which probably means we will see more of Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow.

Chu was a surprise choice to direct Retaliation, given that most of the films that he directed before it were music and dance related. After all he was known for directing films like Step Up 2: The Streets and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, films that have little to no action sequences.

Deadline reports that Paramount and MGM are very close to closing a deal with the director. No word yet on if Retaliation scribes Rhett Reese or Paul Wernick will return to pen the third script for the sequel. Based on the report that seems unlikely as it said that the studios have narrowed the field of writers to four, and that they are expect to make an announcement soon.

Even with the film’s changing of the guard in both it’s director (Chu replaced Stephen Sommers) and leads (Channing Tatum was replaced by Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis), not to mention it’s nine month delay just to convert the film into 3D, G.I. Joe Retaliation still managed to be a relative hit. No word yet on when the film will be released.
