NBCUniversal and Lion Forge Set to Launch Digital Comics Based On ’80s & ’90s TV Shows
  |  @   |

Have you ever wanted a comic based on the seminal ’90s television series Saved by the Bell? Or maybe the ’80s classic Miami Vice? Really? You have? You may need to have your head examined. On the plus side, if seeing either of these books has been your dream then this is a good day for you as it has been announced that digital publisher Lion Forge Comics has acquired the license to publish comic books based on shows from the NBCUniversal Television Group.

Lion Forge has announced the first five books they will publish will be based on the two shows mentioned above as well as Airwolf, Knight Rider, and Punky Brewster.

The plan is to release the series starting in the fall, and they will be available through Amazon’s Kindle Bookstore, Apple iBooks, and the Nook Book Store.

All I have to say about this is that I am confounded by this announcement. Some of these series just sound bizarre as the basis for a comic book and I have to wonder if there’s that much of an audience for these. Sure, ’90s nostalgia may be in full steam but you’re telling me there are enough people reading digital comics who are also interested in Punky Brewster? It’s just so odd. Far be it from me to deprive people of something they enjoy, and if Lion Forge can find a market for these, they can go nuts. My only other question is when do we get a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air comic.

Do you think you will pick up any of these comics when they’re available?
