Director Colin Trevorrow Gives ‘Jurassic Park 4’ Slight Status Update

Universal Pictures had pushed the release date for long-gestating Jurassic Park 4 back for a full year, from summer 2014 to a yet-to-be announced 2015 release, because of some issues with the script. But that seems to be the only issue, and while it may look like a major cause for concern, it will definitely give director Colin Trevorrow and producer Steven Spielberg more time to polish the script.

While on the red carpet for the Saturn Awards, Trevorrow spoke to Schmoes Know (via ComingSoon) about the status of the film, how Spielberg is an asset to the pre-production process, and where Jurassic Park 4 fits.

Here’s what the director had to say about Spielberg:

“It’s incredible to have Steven, who’s done this for decades and has such an incredible filmic knowledge and just understands the language of the story in a way that for us is very refreshing. It’s not like getting notes from a studio executive, it’s really just trying to crack this and make it the best it can be.”

When asked about whether or not the film will be a reboot or a sequel, Trevorrow responded with:

“We don’t want to create a new scoop here, but we definitely want to honor what came before us.”

Considering that Jurassic Park 3 was pretty much panned by everyone, and Jurassic Park: The Lost World had mixed reactions, it hasn’t been easy to make a sequel that would outshine the original.

The director closed the interview by saying:

“We are very aware of how much a certain generation especially cares about this movie and we talk about it all the time and really the conversation is: It’s not about us, it’s not about our careers, it’s – how do we make something that can stand with the first one.”

It has been rumored that Jurassic Park 4 will make a return to the isle where it all began, where a new Jurassic Park has been opened and is now fully functional. But problems arise when a new dinosaur wrecks havoc on the park. Also rumored is that the sequel will introduce underwater dinosaurs never before seen in any of the previous films.
