‘Oldboy’ Trailer: Nothing Is More Twisted Than The Truth
  |  @   |

Spike Lee‘s adaptation of Park Chan-wook‘s Oldboy has had some bumps during the pre-production process, which almost led to the film’s demise. But like the character itself, Lee refused to give up, and now we have our first look at the film starring Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson, and Rooney Mara.

Brolin plays a man who is kidnapped for no apparent reason and held captive in a hotel room. Released 20 years later without any explanation, the former captive has a thirst for vengeance on those who forced him to live locked away from society and charged with a vicious crime he did not commit.

Lee stated that he wanted to stay true to the source material, while also paying homage to Chan-wook’s adaptation, but also adding some of his own influences into the film as well. That’s something I hope all directors do with adaptations like these. But with the trailer looking oddly like the Korean version, it should be interesting to see what sort of new ideas Lee put into this version of Oldboy. If anything, we should get a glimpse of those when another trailer comes out. But for now, let’s settle for a shot-by-shot recreation of the original film.

Also starring Sharlto Copley, Oldboy opens in theaters on October 25.

OLDBOY is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment. Co-starring Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley, OLDBOY was directed by Spike Lee, from a script by Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, The Cell, Thor). The film was produced by Roy Lee, Doug Davison and Nathan Kahane.

  1. I guess we’ll just have to see how this remake holds up to the original. So I guess Hollywood doesn’t have to make movies anymore as long as they can just buy someones original and make it their own. :-(

  2. Yeah FLGeekScene, It’s been that way since the bean counters took it over.
Hell, Spike Lee is a Maker of Racial Movies and a known racist who wouldn’t even attend his father’s wedding because he was marrying a white lady.

Bunch of Souless Hypocrites in Hollywood. Kinda reminds you or the Media and Govt.

Maybe they are trying to dumb down the people(at least then they would have a reason for being so Pathetic)
