Vin Diesel Hints At A Possible Major Role In ‘The Avengers 2’

BAADASSSSS!   |

Vin Diesel Image

Two weeks ago news broke that Vin Diesel of Pitch Black and the Fast and the Furious franchises was meeting with Marvel Studios about a possible mystery role in one of their forthcoming movies. How did we find that out? Diesel revealed it on his Facebook page!

So then began speculation about what role that could be, and how exactly would the established action star fit into a cinematic universe that has launched more than a few acting careers but whose parent studio has become infamous for its draconian business practices. Fueling the rampant theorizing, Diesel posted this picture on his Facebook today…

Vin Diesel

The photo was accompanied by the following caption:

Marvel meeting today”¦

Only the people in the room can tell you what was discussed”¦

P.s. Thanks to Our page, for pushing to make it happen”¦ you know I get tunnel vision with my work”¦ and after that meeting today”¦ wow!

Analysis of the photo has led many to conclude that Diesel may be in talks to play the Vision in The Avengers 2. The poster he is standing in front of it is of the cover to The Avengers #2, and of course the fact that he used the word “vision” in his post…well…you never know. It is just wishful thinking for now.

Created by Roy Thomas and John Buscema, the Vision made his first appearance in The Avengers #57, published in October 1968. The character was an android created by the villainous robot Ultron to destroy the Avengers and Ultron’s creator Dr. Henry Pym (a.k.a. Ant-Man/Giant Man) and his wife Janet Van Dyne (a.k.a the Wasp), but was later convinced to turn on Ultron and join the team. After the release of last summer’s The Avengers rumors for a while persisted that fallen S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) would be resurrected in the Marvel Movieverse as the Vision, but they were put to rest once it was announced that Gregg would return as Coulson in the new ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that premieres this fall.

If the rumor turns out to be true, cool. Diesel is a hardcore geek so you know he’d be down for playing the Vision. His skull is the perfect shape and his physique and deep, rumbling voice seem well-suited to playing a heroic android. The move might be extremely beneficial to his career in the long run should he finally tire of the car chase flicks.

But now we have to wonder. If the Vision is going to be a part of The Avengers 2 then does this mean that Ultron and Dr. Pym will both be making appearances as well? Seeing as how Ant-Man‘s solo movie (directed by Edgar Wright) is set to debut six months after the super-team sequel’s inevitable box office conquest in 2015, this would hint at Ant-Man‘s potential plot being impacted by the events of The Avengers 2. This news and more could be revealed during Marvel Studios’ panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, which will be held on the third day of the convention – July 20, 2013 – and we’ll have our team on site to provide coverage. Marvel loves springing awesome surprises on us. We shall certainly see, won’t we?

You heard it here first, haha.

  2. Wonder Man.

  3. I am leaning towards agreeing with you above all others.

He won’t be Pym/Giant-Man/Ant-Man. I am sure Geek Tyrant was wrong and reading too much into his tweet. Also highly doubt it would be Vision given the lengths Marvel goes through to establish characters. Vision is a pretty huge friggin deal, and his origin requires Ultron and Pym already established. Given the lineup of films prior to Avengers 2, just don’t see that happening.

    Mark my words!

  4. Yeah. Honestly everything you said in that reply, I thought about pretty much verbatim. This is what made me go with Wonder Man, they don’t have to go through the whole father, son, Ultron, Ant-Man, Vision, Hank Pym storyline. I think that the Vision is a character that shouldn’t be rushed in to a movie. He is sort of the Data of the Avengers and they need to bring him in with when the time is right, and when I say Data, I mean the ways that Vision is logical, and at first acts and thinks as a Synthezoid, but then grows in to the character he is learning to be sort of human, even before the transfer of Simon Williams in to the body of the Vision.

Also, Wonder Man would be the perfect small time bad guy to be running amok in New York or wherever they will base Avengers 2. Remember he was originally an Avengers enemy before he and his brother split and his brother stayed a villain and then rescued him later hoping that he’d be a bad guy again.

Wonder Man is powerful enough to go toe to toe with any of the four prime Avengers and would obviously wreck Black Widow and Hawkeye, but blow by blow he could take on the core four, at least for a while until they realize Thanos is the real big bad guy and well, maybe they won’t be able to beat him without Wonder Man, he could go Ionic, and blast Thanos back in to orbit, although that wouldn’t happen in comic book lore. This is just my theory on how it could work if it is Wonder Man, lastly he could also get critically hurt and to save him they would have to put his memory in to a Synthezoid or an LMD. Enter the Vision. Just a thought, maybe a longshot..

  5. You may be reading too much into it. Just because he writes tunnel vision and there’s a character named Vision doesn’t mean that he is playing that character. Besides, not sure Vin is that clever.
