Khan’s Origins To Be Revealed In IDW’s Upcoming ‘Star Trek: Khan’ Miniseries

It was one of the worst-kept secrets in science fiction cinema, but yes, Khan is, in fact, the villain in this summer’s Star Trek Into Darkness. Khan Noonien Singh, also known as “KHAAAAAAN!!!,” is one of the most popular characters ever introduced into the Star Trek universe, and thanks to Benedict Cumberbatch’s awesome portrayal of the character, interest in the genetically enhanced super villain has greatly increased.

Now, IDW Comics plans to reveal the origins of Khan in an upcoming 6-issue miniseries called Star Trek: Khan, from the publisher’s ongoing Star Trek series team of writer Mike Johnson and artist Claudia Balboni. Star Trek Into Darkness screenwriter Roberto Orci will oversee the project.

“We’re traveling back in time to show Khan’s rise to power and give fans their first look at the legendary Eugenics Wars,” says Johnson. “As the series unfolds we will see the events that led to Khan leaving Earth aboard the Botany Bay, and then jump forward to witness his awakening in the future by Admiral Marcus.”

Actor Ricardo Montalbán first brought Khan to life in the original 1960’s Star Trek episode “Space Seed” and then famously reprised the character for the 1982 film, Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan. Starting in 2001, author Greg Cox expanded on the character with his Khan novel trilogy – The Star Trek: The Original Series: The Eugenics Wars: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh Vol. 1, Vol. 2, and Star Trek: The Original Series: Khan #3: To Reign in Hell. Since the recent Star Trek films are really reboots, it’s probable that the new comic book will have details that are all-new or are a variant of what we already know.

Star Trek: Khan will be released starting this October.

  1. His origins were released in the Eugenics wars books a long time ago.
