In a bit of unexpected news, it’s being reported that American Dad!, the hit animated comedy from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, will be moving from its current home in Fox’s Animation Domination lineup to TBS starting in 2014.
The show, which follows an ultra-conservative American man, his family, and the alien life form they harbor, will begin its 10th season on Fox beginning this September. After that it will make the jump to TBS where it will begin its 11th season next year.
Of the announcement Michael Wright, TBS, TNT, and Turner Classic Movies president and head of programming had this to say:
“American Dad! is a great fit for TBS, a favorite of comedy fans who like smart, irreverent humor with ample doses of biting wit and skewering satire. We look forward to welcoming Seth MacFarlane and the rest of his team as they bring this iconic show to TBS.”
Twentieth Century Fox TV chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden added:
“American Dad! is a brilliantly inventive series, and TBS’s desire to platform new episodes demonstrates the enduring power of great and compelling content. Seth, Mike and Matt have created an incredibly rich world of unique characters, and we couldn’t be happier that they will be able to continue to tell their trademark brand of subversive, hilarious stories to their millions of fans.”
This can only be considered great news for fans of the show, and hopefully a sign of things to come. Instead of popular shows being canceled when a network doesn’t want to continue with them, why not let other networks step in and take them over?
Speaking of…hey TBS, I hear Futuramais looking for a new home. You deliver new American Dad! and Futurama together and you’re already rivaling the Animation Domination lineup.

…Where the show will die a painful and quick death in a bad time slot.
