Kick-Ass 2 is coming out in about a month, but that doesn’t mean the film’s producers can’t get the word out to fans at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. The director Jeff Wadlow, as well as the creators of the comic, Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. along with actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Lindy Booth, Donald Faison, and John Leguizamo all appeared on the panel in Hall H today. And they brought some all-new footage with them.
Some of the footage from the film showed off Kick-Ass getting into better shape as well as revealing to his friend that he is the famous hero. Taylor-Johnson spoke about how both he and Chloe Grace-Moretz, who made an appearance at the beginning of the panel via satellite from a remote location, had both grown so much since the first movie, and how that affects the new movie.
The next footage shown focused on Christopher Mintz-Plasse’s character and his evolution into a super villain and the dark ride that the character takes. There were a few things that the character does in the comic book but doesn’t do in the film, while still doing a lot of bad things.
The third clip featured Chloe Grace-Moretz as Hit Girl. In the movie, Hit Girl makes the transition to high school and finds a way to juggle both sides of her life. She also talked about the bond that forms between Hit Girl and Kick-Ass when she starts training him.
They also premiered a new trailer for the film which featured tons of scenes pulled straight from the comic. The film looks to replicate the ultra-violence that is the hallmark of both the first movie and the comic. Kick-Ass 2 focuses on Hit Girl’s transition as well Mintz-Plasse’s rise as a villain and his assembling of his own Legion of Doom. The sequel also features plenty of Jim Carrey’s character. It looks like they have found a way to recapture the look and feel of the first movie.
Director Jeff Wadlow was asked if he would come back for a third movie and said that he is still so focused on this film that he can’t be concerned with another sequel.
As we were going live with this post, Universal released the extended NSFW trailer, which you can watch there below.
Kick-Ass 2 comes to theaters August 16, 2013.
