SDCC 2013: ‘The Wolverine’ Panel With Hugh Jackman
  |  @   |

Director James Mangold was on stage at San Diego Comic-Con to talk about The Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman as the title character. The director described the film as a tough guy movie that deals with where Logan comes from and where he’s going to. He said that they have amped up the action in the sequel, while finding a way to explore his personality.

They then showed an extended clip of the movie that featured some of the most brutal scenes that have ever featured Wolverine. Wolverine was shown getting shot, stabbed, poisoned, and dishing out as much as he takes. Much of the footage had already been shown in the official trailer, but there was plenty of new stuff in this R-rated footage. Then they showed the footage again for good measure.

After the clip was shown, Hugh Jackman came on stage. Both hi and Mangold talked about how much they enjoyed the Chris Claremont/Frank Miller Wolverine comic book story from the 80s. Mangold talked about the film exploring Wolverine’s past, and that the film starts out after X-Men: The Last Stand, with Wolverine in the Yukon, just like the comic series began.

It was also mentioned that Wolverine’s hair and claws had been slightly redesigned for the film.

Jackman talked about the various real injuries that he gave himself and other thanks to the claws. Jackman also took the time to thank fans for embracing him in the role and also thanked Wolverine creator Len Wein, who was in the crowd and came up to shake Jackman’s hand.

After the panel ended, there was a surprise one for X-Men: Days Of Future Past, where Jackman appeared again (see our coverage).
