As San Diego Comic-Con was kicking off Thursday, some very real-life drama unfolded nearby. An unidentified woman stepped onto her 14th story balcony, stepped over the railing, and began dangling herself, threatening to jump.
At first people in the area thought it might be some kind of stunt, but when the woman climbed over the railing and it was realized that she wasn’t wearing any safety gear, onlookers began pointing and shouting at her not to jump. Gregg Sergeant, Amos Carver, and Scot Schecter, three stuntmen setting up for a stunt for the Kick-Ass 2 premiere party across the street, heard the rising commotion and noticed the woman, immediately rushing toward her building. After getting permission from the hotel to enter her room, which they found unlocked, the trio quietly made their way to the balcony. When they got to her she was hanging on with one hand and had one foot off the edge. Sergeant quickly secured the woman from behind with a bear hug, then Carver put a harness around her to make sure she was safe before they picked her up and pulled her back onto the balcony.
You can see the intense moments play out in a pair of videos below.
According to police the woman was very upset about a recent breakup, and she was said to be be very drunk as well. “She just kept saying, ‘I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry,’ over and over again,” Carver said of the woman. “She was very distraught.”
