From Batman and Superman to Wonder Woman and Shazam and even the short-lived Human Target, Aquaman, and Birds of Prey, DC Comics have seen much more success putting their heroes on the small screen than their competitor Marvel Comics – although that might change when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. debuts this fall. With Arrow making huge waves and getting ready for its second season, new heroes with DC roots were bound to have their own shows as well.
It’s being reported that the CW network is fast tracking Flash, a series based on the speedy superhero from Arrow team of co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and director David Nutter.
The hero won’t be appearing on TV anytime soon, but the report says expect to see the Flash drop by next season on Arrow, which will be followed by his own series. Somewhat mirroring DC and WB’s plans for the Justice League movie by introducing Batman in the Batman Superman film.
Berlanti, Kreisberg and DC Entertainment’s Geoff Johns will write the series, which has yet name an actor to play the role of the hero.
It’s unlikely that this series will have any relation to the previous Flash TV series that aired in the ’90s, and there is no word on which iteration of the Flash will be featured in this series. Also there hasn’t been any news about the Flash movie opening sometime in 2016, so while some may draw connections to the two now, there isn’t any confirmation that the two are related.
