D23 Expo: Voice Cast For ‘Inside Out’ Announced; Amy Poehler Is Lead Voice
  |  @   |

The Summer 2015 Pixar feature Inside Out was investigated in great depth at today’s Animation panel at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA, with the voice cast announced for the Disney/Pixar animated film and wow does this look like a winner.

Inside Out follows 11-year-old named Riley, who moves to the unfamiliar San Francisco. What awaits her there? We’re sure to find out, but what is certain is we will discover what’s inside her mind, which are represented here as five main characters that drive Riley’s personality and actions, known as the Five Emotions. Director Pete Docter and producer Jonas Rivera talked about the Five Emotions and announced which actors will voice them.

Lewis Black voices red guy Anger, dressed in a business suit; Mindy Kaling voices careful and straightforward Disgust; Bill Hader returns to Pixar again as the voice of Fear, a nerdy guy; Amy Poehler voices Joy, who glows and possesses blue hair; and Phyllis Smith voices Sadness, adorned in a blue sweater. All five play into how Riley behaves.

John Lasseter, chief creative officer for Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, began by joking around with its original untitled status, “pitching” it to Disney executives with fake advertisements of this long title on billboards, bus shelters, and other platforms. Good stuff. But the best material was in its imaginative storytelling.

“This film is one of the most unique films I have ever been associated with,” Lasseter said.

Hader and Smith came out to huge applause. “I was in the neighborhood anyway,” Hader joked, as he returned to the stage (he was also there for the Finding Dory presentation).

We were later shown a scene from the film, in rough form, which depicted Riley arguing with her parents. Each of Riley’s actions was based on the interactions between the Five Emotions, and we even glimpsed into the emotions within her parents’ heads.

Additionally, the film investigates other components, including dreams, imagination, abstract content, and other areas inside the mind. There’s even a “train of thought” that resembles a train. Great puns!

From director Pete Docter (“Up,” “Monsters, Inc.”) and producer Jonas Rivera (“Up”), Disney”¢Pixar’s “Inside Out” takes you to a place that everyone knows, but no one has ever seen: the world inside the human mind. Riley, an 11-year-old girl who recently moved with her family to San Francisco, is not the main character but the setting for the film. Moviegoers will go inside her mind to explore how memories are formed and how a mixture of five emotions””Joy, Disgust, Anger, Fear and Sadness””defines life experiences. In theaters June 19, 2015.
