AMC Greenlights ‘Breaking Bad’ Saul Goodman Prequel ‘Better Call Saul’
  |  @   |

Breaking Bad fans would agree that the world would be a much better place with little more Saul Goodman in their lives. And it looks like AMC and Sony Pictures TV agrees. Today, the two parties have reached an agreement on the sniff off that would serve as a prequel to the the Vince Gilligan hit series, which is coming to an end.

According to Deadline, the series, tentatively titled Better Call Saul, would be an hour-long prequel that would center on Goodman (played by Bob Odenkirk) before he became the slippery sleazy silver-tongued lawyer for Walter White. The status of the project is unknown, but word is Better Call Saul, based on the lawyer’s catchy slogan, has already been approved for a full-series order pending the agreements of the complication of Sony TV’s deals with Gilligan, writer Peter Gould, and Odenkirk.

Rumors of a Saul Goodman spin-off have been mulling for quite some time. Both Gilligan and Odenkirk expressed extreme interest in the idea of bringing Goodman back for his own show. According to the site, “while hour long, the spinoff is expected to be far less dark than the original series, with more comedy infused into it.”

Since this would take place before White hires Goodman as his lawyer, it opens the door for other characters to come back into his office. For the sake of spoilers, I won’t say which characters could be coming back, but let’s just say most of them are now taking a dirt nap.

The final episode of Breaking Bad will air on September 29, on AMC.

  3. I don’t watch Breaking Bad, but if this goes through it will be good for Odenkirk. I’ve seen a lot of the small comedic stuff he has done. AMC usually knows how to treat a show right so they might be able to make something of a the Saul character.
