Horror Master Dario Argento Raises the Stakes in ‘Dracula 3D’ Trailer
  |  @   |

Italian director Dario Argento revolutionized 1970’s horror cinema with masterpieces such as Deep Red, Suspiria, and (collaborating as a producer, with George Romero directing) Dawn of the Dead. His influence has been cited by directors such as John Carpenter, Quentin Tarantino, and Guillermo Del Toro. The subjects of his films have included serial killers, witches, and zombies. But never has Argento tackled the topic of the fanged Prince of Darkness himself…until now.

A new trailer for Dario Argento’s Dracula 3D has been released, and it single-handedly kicks the ass of every sparkly-skinned emo to ever disgrace the genre.

Check out the trailer here below.

The story is loosely based on Bram Stoker’s classic tale, with Rutger Hauer starring as Van Helsing, Argento’s daughter Asia Argento as Lucy, and Thomas Kretschmann as the titular bloodsucker (ironically, Kretschmann will be starring as Van Helsing in NBC’s upcoming Dracula fall series). And yes, as the title suggests, it’s in 3D, a format seemingly custom-made for Argento, yet this marks his first foray into the third dimension (reason alone to see it). The trailer has a definite old-school, Hammer Films, B-movie feel to it, a loving throwback to an age when vampires were creatures to be feared, not fawned over.

Dracula 3D opens in theaters and on iTunes beginning October 4th.
