Because, Awesome: Metallica Plays “Enter Sandman” Live For Mariano Rivera Retirement Ceremony
  |  @   |

I am a born and raised New Englander, and a Red Sox fan. So, as you might imagine, writing about a New York Yankee player is not exactly the most exciting thing to do. That said, this is no ordinary player.

Mariano Rivera is one of the true greats of the game, the hands-down best closer of all time and a living legend. And as anyone who follows baseball knows, when the current MLB season ends Mo will be retiring from the game after 19 seasons.

Whenever it was time for Mariano to come out and shut the door on the other team at home, the Metallica classic “Enter Sandman” would blare out over the sound system. So for the big farewell ceremony held at Yankee stadium yesterday, it was only fitting that the band took part and played the song live.

You can check it out below.

For this Red Sox fan, I can say that it’s been a real honor to have seen much of Rivera’s storied career—complete with a couple of timely and appreciated disappointments—and while I have nothing but respect for the player and the man, I couldn’t be happier that he’s finally going on a well-deserved permanent vacation.

If you want to watch the entire Mariano Rivera ceremony you can check it out right here.
