Shazam! Vol. 1 is the New 52 reboot for Shazam. It takes us through the story of how the troublesome teen orphan Billy Batson got his powers, and his first battle with them. In this story, he has to deal with the 7 deadly sins, Black Adam, and Dr. Sivana’s behind the scenes work.

Geoff Johns‘ writing is some of the best writing I have ever read in a comic book series. It is an incredible story, engaging the reader on so many levels. The character is fun and engaging, the plot is both funny and had true moments of tension. It was incredibly read.

The art by Gary Frank is great. Colorful and sharply drawn, it works so well with the story, enhancing it. It brings the story to life in a way that is so enjoyable you want to linger on the frames.

In conclusion, I think Shazam Vol. 1 is awesome, and if you like anything else period, you should get it and read it, then read it again for good measure. It is an awesome book, and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone who would listen. If the following volumes are half as good as this one, they would still be awesome.
