Matt Smith, the actor best known for playing the eleventh incarnation of the Doctor on the wildly popular BBC series, Doctor Who, is ready to take on a bit more of a dark and disturbed character on the stage.

Smith is set to play Patrick Bateman in an upcoming musical adaptation of American Psycho coming to London’s West End. Christian Bale previously played Bateman in the 2000 cult classic movie directed by Mary Harron, which is adapted from the 1991 Bret Easton Ellis novel of the same name.

The musical will run from December 3rd to January 25th of next year, and will be directed by Rupert Goold, the Artistic Director of the Almeida Theatre.

There’s also a sequel TV series in the works from FX and Lionsgate that follows the same aggressively narcissistic and mentally unstable Patrick Bateman decades after the events of the book/movie when he’s in his 50s, and the young protege he takes on.
