NYCC 2013: Dark Horse Comics Announce ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ and ‘Angel & Faith’ Return For 2014

Fans of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel & Faith comics from Dark Horse Comics should be happy today to learn that both series will be coming back for new “seasons” in 2014, as was announced at New York Comic-Con 2013 this weekend.

There will be a slight creative team change as the old Angel & Faith team of writer Christos Gage and artist Rebekah Isaacs moving over to the main Buffy series. Taking over on Angel & Faith will be writer Victor Gischler (X-Men), with the art being handled by Will Conrad (Red Lanterns). Each series will run for 30 issues, with Buffy launching on March 19th, 2013 and Angel & Faith dropping on April 2nd.

“The Buffyverse community has been wonderfully welcoming to Rebekah and me. It’s a tremendous honor for Joss and Dark Horse to trust us with their flagship book, and we are going to do all we can to be worthy of that trust. It’s a new season, with new rules…but hopefully the same blend of love, action, horror, humor and creativity that’s made Buffy and her Scoobies part of all our families. We hope you’ll join us for the ride,” states Christos Gage

“I was proud and privileged to have a small part in season nine, and I can’t express how grateful I am to have an expanded role in season ten. Buffy the Vampire Slayer remains an iconic television show, and the Dark Horse comics continue that great tradition. I plan on having a lot of fun.” Says Angel & Faith series writer Victor Gischler

“I’m very happy that our Angel & Faith artist has hopped over to Buffy, allowing our Buffy artist to jump over to Serenity. And to make the game of musical chairs complete, the guy who draw the first two Serenity miniseries is back in the loop, taking over Angel & Faith. These are all artists Joss and the writers and I are comfortable working with, and who are cozy with these characters, so it’s nice to shake things up a bit while having a lot of confidence in what these artists can do. And I’m so happy to have Will back,” adds Scott Allie.

This will be the third “season” for Buffy thanks to our friends at Dark Horse, so you know that the series is in good hands over there. I’m sure those who enjoyed the work of Georges Jeanty on the series will be sad to see him move on, but they’re getting a new Firefly series out of him, so they should be suitably placated. I’m sure the hard core Buffy fans have been reading Angel & Faith as well, so they should already be familiar with the skills of Gage and Isaacs, and know that the series is in good hands. Gischler and Conrad are no slouches themselves, with Gischler tying vampires into his X-Men run, and Conrad coming of a blood laden series in Red Lanterns. Both series look to set up to continue their great runs.
