Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd Top Marvel Studios’ ‘Ant-Man’ Shortlist
  |  @   |

Edgar Wright took a brief vacation after working on the final flavor of the Cornetto Trilogy, The World’s End. Now that it is all over, the director is hard at work getting ready for the long-gestating superhero film, Ant-Man for Marvel Studios. As proof that pre-production was commencing, Wright tweeted a photo of what looked like an early look at the film – or a photo of production of the test footage.

With everything coming together for a possible January start date, multiple names are starting to emerge as possible contenders to play Hank Pym aka Ant-Man. Variety reports that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd top Marvel’s shortlist, with a possibility of a third name joining the mix.

It’s not so surprising to see Rudd’s name as a possible choice. After all, Parks and Recreation‘s Chris Pratt plays the lead in James Gunn’s Guardians Of the Galaxy. Pratt has also dabbled in some dramas like Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty.

Gordon-Levitt is no stranger to comedy either. He has already starred in (500) Days Of Summer and Don Jon. He’s also been in two Christopher Nolan films, so he knows his way around an action sequence.

The trade speculates that Wright may “want more of a normal looking actor for the role with some sort of wise-cracking personality rather than a beefed up action hero like Chris Hemsworth or Chris Evans.” If that is what Wright is looking for, then these two fit the bill.

We will keep you posted as the pre-production progresses. Ant-Man opens in theaters on July 31, 2015.
