‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ Director Henry Selick To Make Live-Action Fantasy ‘A Tale Dark and Grimm’
  |  @   |

Director Henry Selick is known as the man to call when you want to make a stop motion animated films. His top credit is of course The Nightmare Before Christmas, and his other works include Coraline and James and the Giant Peach. His next feature is also a stop motion movie, titled The Shadow King.

Selick has only once directed a live-action movie before, Monkeybone, and even that was partially animated. But now he’s ready to give it another go with a new fairy tale project titled A Tale Dark and Grimm.

The movie is based on the book of the same name by Adam Gidwitz, which tells the tale Hansel and Gretel as they escape their own fairy tale world and make their way through eight other Grimm or Grimm-inspired fairy tales, where they’ll have to deal with everything from witches and warlocks to dragons and the devil.

Of the announcement, Selick said:

“I remain completely enraptured by Adam Gidwitz’ marvelous book “˜A Tale Dark & Grimm. It’s a hilarious, deeply inventive tale about survival in the world of fairytales and what it takes to forgive one’s parents. So it’s a huge thrill to be joining the team of Kamala Films and FilmNation as the director of the film based on it.”

The adaptation is written by John W. Mann and Jon Gunn, and no release window is known yet.
