Michael Dougherty‘s cult horror anthology Trick “˜r Treat is a perfect film to watch each year during the Halloween season on Blu-ray or DVD while curled up on the couch. But, what would be even cooler is getting to finally see it on the big screen at a theater with fellow horror fans, especially since the film never got a theatrical release.
So, if you’re in the Los Angeles area on October 28, 2013, then here’s your chance to do just that: Legendary Pictures and Beyond Fest will present a one-night-only theatrical screening of Trick “˜r Treat at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, which will be followed by a panel featuring director Michael Dougherty as well as several members of the cast.
Now, most of us won’t be able to get to the screening, which is why it’s really cool that both the showing of the film and the panel will be live-streamed nationally on Legendary’s Facebook page at facebook.com/legendary.
UPDATE: It’s been announced that actors Dylan Baker, Brian Cox, and Jean-Luc Bilodeau will join director Michael Dougherty at the event, along with Quinn Lord, who played the horror icon Sam in the movie. Moderating the panel will be actor Seth Green.
THE STORY OF TRICK “˜R TREAT
Although never released in theaters, Trick “˜r Treat became a cult classic through its release on DVD, digital platforms, and extensive play in festivals. Additionally, the film received rave reviews for its originality and ambition. The passage of time has not diminished the fan fervor for this horror classic, which continues to achieve a life of its own with each new technology, but has never been seen in theaters – until now.
Dougherty’s story takes place in a small Ohio town on All Hallows Eve where four interwoven tales – including a high-school principal who moonlights as a vicious serial killer, a college-age virgin who’s saving herself for that special someone, a woman whose hatred of Halloween is only exceeded by her husband’s love of the mischievous holiday, and a callous group of teens who carry out an unforgivably cruel prank – delivers the kind of chills that can only occur on the darkest day of the year.
Trick “˜r Treat is one of my favorite Halloween horror films of all time now, and I feel it’s definitely the best one to come out in recent years. I can’t remember the last time I felt so elated watching a horror movie, considering most have been over-the-top ventures into torture porn. Trick “˜r Treat, produced by Bryan Singer, stars Dylan Baker (Spider-Man 2), Anna Paquin (True Blood), Leslie Bibb (Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby), Quinn Lord, Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica), and Brian Cox (X2), and introduces a new horror killer to the pantheon – Sam, the tiny burlap sack-wearing trick-or-treater who appears throughout each story in the anthology. So, if this movie is not on your radar, I highly recommended you get it on there, which, as I mentioned, you can do by watching the Facebook livestream on October 28th.
