Deal: ‘Six Feet Under’ & ‘Big Love’ DVD Box Sets
  |  @   |

The Gold Box spotlight deal of the day over at Amazon today is the Six Feet Under: The Complete Series DVD box set for only $54.49 (that’s 64% off the list price of $150.92).

Also part of the spotlight deal is the Big Love: The Complete Series DVD box set for only $84.99 (that’s 57% off the list price of $199.95).

Note – this deal is valid only for today, Wednesday, October 30, 2013, until 11:59pm PST while supplies last.

The 25-disc set for Six Feet Under contains all five seasons of the Alan Ball dramatic series, plus two bonus soundtracks, audio commentary, deleted scenes, episode previews and recaps, and several featurettes. The set also comes with an exclusive illustrated booklet with character obituaries and memories from the show’s creators.

For those of you not familiar with the show, its main selling point is that it starred Michael C. Hall, known now for playing the serial killer who offs serial killers on Showtime’s Dexter, as well as the many the many guest stars.

In Six Feet Under, after their father dies, two brothers must help their meek mother Ruth (Frances Conroy) by running the family business — a funeral home. Hall’s character David, who’s in the closet, is actually the good son, while prodigal son Nate (Peter Krause) returns home reluctantly to serve as co-director of the funeral home.

The show also starred Lauren Ambrose as David and Nate’s free-spirited younger sister Claire, Freddy Rodriguez as the mortician looking to move up, and as a reoccurring character, Rainn Wilson (Dwight on The Office), as a peculiar mortuary intern who gets involved with Ruth. There was plenty of guest-stars as well, and in my opinion, the series has one of the best series finales in television history.

Big Love was another HBO, which ran for five seasons, all of which are included in this 19-disc DVD box set. Here’s the description from the product page:

Over the course of five seasons, Bill Henrickson and his three wives (Barb, Nicki, and Margene) struggle to overcome a myriad of challenges they’re faced with while living a modern-day polygamist lifestyle. Bill is an independent businessman who runs a growing chain of hardware stores (Home Plus); the family later goes on to expand their business ventures to a Mormon-friendly casino in the middle of an Indian reservation; the family contemplates taking on a fourth wife; and as if that wasn’t enough on their plates, Bill decides to run for public office. In one of the most shocking moments of the series, on election night, new state Senator Bill Henrickson shook Utah to its core by outing his family as polygamists. Now, instead of being embraced for their honesty, the Henrickson family is engulfed by hostility from neighbors, Home Plus employees, casino partners, students at their kids’ schools and even fellow polygamists hoping to keep their personal lives private.
