Another Remake Of George A. Romero’s ‘Day Of The Dead’ On The Way

George A. Romero's Day of the Dead

Fans of king of the zombies George A. Romero‘s 1985 undead favorite Day of the Dead probably weren’t huge fans of the remake that was released in 2008. Now, only five years later, another remake is in development.

The new take is being developed by new genre production company Vicarious Entertainment, which comes from Paris Kasidokostas-Latsis and Terry Dougas of 1821 Pictures, who was behind the oft-troubled Natalie Portman project Jane Got A Gun and who are developing the strange take on Homer’s The Odyssey set in space that once had Brad Pitt and George Miller attached.

Of the announcement, Dougas said:

“Our goal is for Vicarious to be a premiere destination that excites creators from all over the world. We are giving them creative freedom and allowing them to showcase their strong vision and voice. There are great filmmakers out there and appetite for the genre so it’s a great time for us to be launching.”

Nothing else is known in regard to how similar to Romero’s original Day of the Dead the new remake will be, or when we might get to see it.

  1. I hope this one doesn’t suck. I mean, it probably will. But I can hope.

  2. A movie so bad that it shows all of it’s 1000 dollar budget and maybe 2 dollars more. I don’t see people thinking that it’s intentionally bad like Evil Dead 2.

So I’m just going to assume that its a bad film and people just have no clue!!!

  3. Evil Dead 2 wasn’t intentionally bad, it was intentionally milking the bad horror attempts from the first one that every laughed at rather than screamed at, it was intentionally a slapstick comedy, the first one wasn’t.

  4. I loved the original Day of the Dead, not as good as Dawn or Night, but still good fun. The remake had Ving Rhames and Mina Suvari, how could you go wrong? Well it did a bit with the ceiling runner zombies and the whole outbreak scenario rather than the after z-day scenario of the original. It also had Greenwall from Ace Ventura 2, gotta like that…maybe not.

  5. Yeah you got it right. The first one had some sweet scary scenes.
But it was a cheapo badly made film but with 3 or 4 inspired scenes. With 2 just doing satire,

Heres one that almost no one knows about. One of the most reverred geek sf movies ever is T2.

I liked it the first few times I seen it, then I hated it for the moronic interactions and ripping off every major scene from the first film.

Well the last time I watched it, it only cemented my comments but made me realize Cameron had to know and started out doing a Satire of Terminator. Maybe hopping to end it all and go on from it, but no one seemed to be in on the joke.

Watch the first and then 2nd film with this in mind and you will see that almost every scene in the first is in the second just bigger more explosives and it the dialog is much more tongue in cheek but also obviously just updated lines from T1

It will make one realize how dumb the film actually is and that it’s only inspiration is in satire of T1. Which as I said is something that no one has really picked up on.

Check it out. Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 did the exact same thing, except Cammeron had like 200 million dollars more to make his.

  6. That’s cool, I’ll keep that in mind when I watch the T’s again.
It is funny Bruce and Sam talking about the premier of Evil Dead, they wanted to scare everyone and were waiting for the first big scare, it would set the tone for the whole movie, everyone laughed.
They said it was better than nothing at all, and that cheap little indi cult flick made them heaps of money to go and do the movie properly, but yes, satirically.
It was so cheap, the car in the original was Director Sam Raimi’s, and he has since featured it in every movie he has made, including The Quick and the Dead, which is set before cars were even around.

  7. But yeah man, I was a kid in the 80’s, growing up on movies like Evil Dead, Nightmare on Elm St, a few lesser known ones like Madman and Cannibal Apocalypse with John Saxon out of Nightmare, these movies scared the life out of me.
That Demon run through the woods in Evil Dead, that was shear terror to me. People don’t really get it these days, the graphics just blow those old films away, but back then this was new.

  8. Bub was awesome!
not to mention the actor who played him, “howard sherman” has a real nice acting range.
