‘Star Wars’: Watch This Long-Lost Deleted Scene Of Yoda From ‘Return Of The Jedi’
  |  @   |

In the second Star Wars film, The Empire Strikes Back, Luke Skywalker leaves his Jedi Master Yoda on Dagobah to try and save his friends. The problem is, he hadn’t yet completed his training.

In the next film, Return Of The Jedi (the final of the original trilogy), Luke, who’s wiser and more practiced, returns to Dagobah to finally finish his Jedi training and to get some answers from his Master about his paternity, but finds Yoda old and dying.

A delete scene from Return Of The Jedi, which had been included in a laserdic version decades ago, is now online which reveals that Luke’s mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, actually did want to tell him the truth about his family.

Check out the scene here below!

I could talk about this new scene for hours, but I wanted to keep it brief and as spoiler-free as possible for the 3 people left in the world who don’t know who Luke’s father is and why that fact was kept from him. But, I will say that this footage shows without a doubt that Frank Oz, who is the voice and puppeteer for Yoda, is totally awesome.

The clip was posted to Facebook by the “Return of the Jedi long lost Edit Droid Laserdisc Discovered” group, an ongoing fan project dedicated to digitizing the special features from an out-of-print LaserDisc version of Return Of The Jedi.

Here’s what the group wrote about the clip:

Obi-Wan would have told you long ago had I let him…..

This bit of dialogue is perhaps the most important on the laserdisc as it was not used in the actual movie. It really changes the perspective on so many levels, truly awesome stuff for any fan – This brings us up to the 22 minutes 49 seconds mark of the laserdisc.

The group also posted a 30-minute video of uncropped, raw footage from the laserdisc, so I’ve added that video here below as well.
