The GoD List: Comics For November 13, 2013
  |  @   |

Each and every week, I, “Thor Ruled!” and “Yes, it did!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of November 13, 2013. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

I’ve got a lot on my mind this week, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to forget about you, my fine readers. We’ve got a new series, a new mini-series, and a new special issue so it is a good week for comics with the number 1 in their titles. So go out there and pick up something new today, all thanks to hearing about it on The GoD List!

Umbral #1 (Image Comics – $2.99) I was a big fan of Antony Johnston and Christopher Mitten’s post-apocalyptic series Wasteland when it first launched, but fell off a bit when Mitten left to work on other projects, so I was excited to hear that the pair was reuniting for a new series from Image comics, titled Umbral. Umbral is described as a dark fantasy, and focuses on a young thief named Rascal who becomes embroiled in the murder of the royal family. Now she must protect the world from dark forces that only Rascal can see. I have heard Johnston describe the series as being reminiscent of movies like The Dark Crystal, which sounds pretty good to me, and I’m always down for a good fantasy story. Johnston and Mitten have already proven themselves to be a team that can create a fully realized world and Mitten has only gotten better since his days on Wasteland. I’ve said before that it seems like Image has a new amazing series starting each week, and this is just more evidence of it.

Unity #1 (Valiant Entertainment – $3.99) Valiant has been making quite a bit of noise over the last year or so with a slew of titles pairing quality talent with 90’s properties that many fans have enjoyed. Unity is the first company-wide crossover for Valiant, and it also brings together a quality creative team in writer Matt Kindt and artist Doug Braithwaite and brings back the name of one Valiant’s old crossovers. Unity brings together a group of Valiant’s heroes to face off against another hero, X-O Manowar. It’s up to Toyo Harada of the Harbinger Corp to get a force together than can stop down the man with the most powerful weapon in the universe. If you’re already enjoying Valiant’s line of comics, I’d guess you’re already looking forward to this. If you haven’t tried them out yet, this may be a good entry into the universe. You can see which characters you like and follow them into their own books.

X-Men: Gold #1 (Marvel Comics – $5.99) It’s a special 50th anniversary issue for the X-Men so Marvel has brought together a list of creators to give them a big old celebration. Chris Claremont returns to the team that made him famous with an untold story featuring his classic group of characters. He’s joined by Stan Lee, Walt and Louise Simonson, Fabian Nicieza and more. While doesn’t seem like an “important” issue, whatever that means, it is a good chance to look back at one of the most popular set of characters in comics history. With the price though, I think this will be something mostly for the hardcore fans, but if you’ve got a few extra bucks this week, you may give this a look.
