‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Creator Kurt Sutter Says Post-Vietnam Prequel Series Possible
  |  @   |

Fans of the insanely popular AMC series Breaking Bad had to say goodbye recently when the show came to an end, but news of a spinoff series helped to ease the pain a little. AMC also gave the greenlight to a spinoff of The Walking Dead.

So with another big series, FX’s Sons of Anarchy, set to conclude after the season seven finale, it only makes sense to ask series creator and showrunner Kurt Sutter if any spinoff possibilities exist there. And the answer is yes.

Continue reading to see what Sutter had to say.

Speaking at the Sons for Sandy Relief event in Asbury Park, N.J. recently, Sutter said:

“I’ve had discussions with the network about it, and I think they are open to it. I think there is something really interesting about the origins of the club. And to do a period piece set in the ’60s, post-Vietnam could be kind of cool. I don’t think we would dovetail and start right after the series ended, but it’s something I’m potentially excited about it.”

From the SOA Wiki page, the origin of the club Sutter is talking about is described as:

John Teller and Piermont “Piney” Winston co-founded SAMCRO in 1967 following their return from the Vietnam War. The first chapter was called “Redwood” because before Gemma, John’s wife, became pregnant with their first son, Jackson (Jax), and settled in Charming, Gemma’s hometown, they cruised the Northern California coast from Eureka to Big Sur, which is redwood country, so he called the chapter the Redwood Originals, hence the SAMCRO (Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original) handle. Six of the “Redwood Original 9” members were Vietnam vets.

Nothing is official yet, but it sounds like something very possible for fans to keep an eye on.

  1. I had been waiting for the creators to add in flash back episodes to the MC’s origins; however, obviously its never going to happen, at least not within the current Sons of Anarchy story. But having an entirely new show dedicated to the same premise, a true origin story, back up in Redwood and eventually moving into Charming, and seeing how those old relationships developed would be amazing. If FX goes forward with this, they should add in Vietnam flash backs, to give the viewer, us, some deeper insights into the characters progression into creating the MC in the first place.
