Earlier this year, Chuck Palahniuk made it known that he was working on a sequel to his best-selling book Fight Club, which would be presented in graphic novel form rather than as a book. Beyond just changing the format of the novel, Palahniuk also let it be known that the sequel would be told from Tyler Durden’s point of view, rather than The Narrator who told the story in the original book.

The news was first dropped at the 2013 San Diego Comic Con during the “Ode to Nerds” panel by Palahniuk, who then sent out a more detailed text synopsis of the story’s outline. Now comes even more details on the sequel, which can be read below.

Here’s some of the info Palahniuk first shared this past summer:

It will likely be a series of books that update the story ten years after the seeming end of Tyler Durden. Nowadays, Tyler is telling the story, lurking inside Jack, and ready to launch a come-back. Jack is oblivious. Marla is bored. Their marriage has run aground on the rocky coastline of middle-aged suburban boredom. It’s only when their little boy disappears, kidnapped by Tyler, that Jack is dragged back into the world of Mayhem.

Sounds like a great beginning toward catching up with these characters!

Now, through a recent interview Palahniuk did with Hustler reporter Kyle Dowling, we have some more details on just where the story is going to go, and just how Jack, now being referred to as Cornelius, will be able to kidnap his own son. According to an excerpt of that interview via chuckpalahniuk.net we learn:

“The sequel will be told from the– at first– submerged perspective of Tyler Durden as he observes the day-to-day tedium of the narrator’s life. Because 20th Century-Fox created the convention of calling the protagonist Jack, I’m calling him Cornelius. He’s living a compromised life with a failing marriage, unsure about his passion for his wife. The typical midlife bullshit. Likewise, Marla is unsatisfied and dreams of accessing the wild man she’d once fallen in love with. She tampers with the small pharmacy of drugs that her husband needs to suppress Tyler, and– go figure– Tyler reemerges to terrorize their lives.”

At this time, aside from the basic plotline, there are no additional details yet on the graphic novel. No publisher, no artist and no planned publication date have been set yet, though Palahniuk does offer “since the Fight Club sequel will appear serialized in graphic form, my book publisher might allow me to launch it earlier than 2015.”

It sounds like this is an active project in the works! More news updates as it becomes available, including whether the graphic novel’s art will use the likenesses of Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helana Bonham-Carter as the basis for Tyler, The Narrator and Marla respectively and what might come of any potential film adaptation.
