‘Terminator’ Reboot Finds New John Connor In Jason Clarke
  |  @   |

The reboot of the Terminator franchise is moving right along, and some intriguing names are involved. The movie, which is said to be titled Terminator: Genesis, will be directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World, Game of Thrones), and now it appears an actor has been chosen to take on the iconic role of John Connor.

According to sources, Jason Clarke, who is quickly making a name for himself after memorable performances in movies like Zero Dark Thirty and The Great Gatsby, has entered into talks for the role. If cast, the actor would join Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is expected to return (though it’s not known how exactly yet).

Much attention has been on the role of Sarah Connor lately, as the list of actresses being looked at for that gig has be whittled down to two names: Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen on the hit HBO series, and Brie Larson, who’s perhaps best known for her work on the show The United States of Tara and in Edgar Wright’s adaptation of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

These names are all interesting as Emilia Clarke and Larson are both in their mid-20s, while Jason Clarke, who’s in talk for the role of the son of the character the actresses are up for, is in his mid-40s. Time travel and such, you understand. Still, interesting.

Nothing is known yet about what storyline this fifth installment in the Terminator franchise will attempt to pull off. All that is known is these names and that the movie is currently set for a July 1, 2015 release date.

Jason Clarke’s schedule just keeps getting busier. In addition to his work in Zero Dark, Gatsby, Lawless, and White House Down, he’s set to be seen in upcoming movies like Everest, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and Child 44.

What do you think of Clarke as a choice to play John Connor?

  1. Based on his age it sounds like it will be set primarily in the future, as the battle-scarred John Connor. If this puts Schwarzenneger, Schwartzennagar, Ahnold in the future, perhaps he could be playing the person the first terminator was originally modeled after in the past. Perhaps in the past he was a junior AI researcher and someone just decided to (innocently) use his likeness for no particular reason. And now in the future he’s conversely using his wits and knowledge of the original Terminator research project and weaknesses to help John Connor.

But I’m just blowing smoke. Who knows?
