Netflix Streaming

Although Netflix lost several great flicks as of the new year, there are a ton of great movies and television shows that have been added to Netflix Instant Streaming library as of January 1st. Some of these films have been available before on Netflix and are returning to the service, others are appearing for the first time.

It is sometimes hard to cut through Netflix’s browsing functionality, especially when trying to locate newly added movies to watch, so I’m cutting through the dreck and highlighting some great titles to add to your queue that are now available.

Top 12 Netflix Picks for January 2014

  • Amelie (2001) – Absolutely adorable French feel-good movie starring Audrey Tautou and featuring an amazing visual color palette.
  • Amityville Horror (1979) – This classic horror film is one of the top haunted house movies out there and can still cause your skin to crawl.
  • Big Trouble in Little China (1986) – John Carpenter teams up again with Kurt Russell for this fun ode to kung fu films and badassary.
  • The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) – Classic sci-fi with an overt message of peace and understanding from the dawn of Red Scare.
  • Dexter Season 5 – 8 – The final four seasons of Dexter are ready to binge on! See how it all concludes.
  • Escape from Alcatraz (1979) – Excellent prison escape movie with Clint Eastwood shows just what it takes to break out.
  • Ninth Gate (1999) – Johnny Depp takes on a literary quest to find the pages of a book that will summon the devil.
  • Raging Bull (1980) – Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro team up for this captivating life story of boxer Jake LaMotta.
  • Reindeer Games (2000) – John Frankenheimer final film with Ben Affleck teaming up with a gang of thieves to rob a casino.
  • Rock “˜n’ Roll High School (1979) – Legendary punk band The Ramones show up at PJ Soles’ high school to rock her Converse off!
  • Spaceballs (1987) – One of Mel Brooks’ absolute finest as he lovingly spoofs Star Wars and host of other sci-fi films.
  • Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970) – American and Japanese co-production portrays the bombing of Pearl Harbor from both sides in this classic war film.

I’ll back next month with a slew of new picks and recommendations for you to check out.

  2. Everyone should watch The Ninth Gate! I absolutely love that film. And Escape From Alcatraz and Spaceballs are definite must-see movies, too.
