Kickstarter Spotlight: ‘Kung Fury’, The Most Awesome Action Movie Ever Made

Kickstarter is a wonderful place where the truly innovative creators of our generation have the potential to financially make their wildest dreams come true whilst retaining their freedom and integrity. Sometimes the rich and powerful will use it in the service of evil, but every so often a particular project comes along that is too good to not become a reality. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you….Kung Fury!

You can watch a trailer and funding pitch video here below.

Laser Unicorns and writer/director David Sandberg have set out to create the most outrageous and exciting work of gloriously excessive 1980’s action hero fan filmmaking known to civilized human beings. Kung Fury is not just a movie title; it’s also the name of its hero (played by Sandberg), a loose cannon Miami cop whose wardrobe consists of mostly leather and a bandanna and can kick an healthy assortment of ass without breaking a sweat. Fury’s latest explosive adventure pits him against the most lethal kung fu master in the world, Adolf Hitler – the “Kung Fuhrer.” The battle between good and evil will take Fury unexpectedly back through the ages to Viking times. Robots, mutants, dinosaurs, lots of martial arts combat, cheeseball 80’s music, a trip to 1940’s Germany, and much more can be counted on to appear in mass quantities.

According to Sandberg, the film, which was mostly shot against green screen backgrounds so they could be expanded through digital effects later on, is almost completed. He funded the production with $5,000 of his own cash, but now Sandberg has set a fundraising goal of $200,000 so he can employ a small team of FX wizards to help finish Kung Fury and also to create marketing materials and other rewards that will be distributed to donors based on the amount of money they kick into the campaign. These rewards include digital copies of the script and HD downloads of the finished film, Blu-rays with accompanying bonus features, T-shirts, posters, soundtracks, an invitation to a cast and crew screening in Stockholm, 3D models used for the major effects sequences and other cool props, an associate producer’s script, and a lot more.

Kung Fury may not be the most original movie ever made, but I’ll be damned if it won’t be a metric ton of fun to watch.
