‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Director Talks Building A Bridge To ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’
  |  @   |

In the midst of editing for X-Men: Days Of Future Past, director Bryan Singer tweeted out an intriguing title: X-Men: Apocalypse. Based on that one tweet, X-Men fans immediately knew what they were in store for. One of the oldest and most powerful mutants the X-Men has ever faced in the comics, was going to get his big screen debut in 2016. But as exciting as that prospect sounded, there was no story and no confirmation that he was going to direct.

Now Singer is talking a little bit more about the sequel and where he is in the negotiation phase. hit the jump to find out more.

Here is what he can talk about writing the script for X-Men: Apocalypse:

“It will also address historical mutant-cy, meaning the deep past, mutant origins and things like that. It’s something that’s always intrigued me when we think about our Gods and our history and miracles and powers.”

So it would possibly be another time travel plot-driven film. Born 5,000 years ago in early Egypt, Apocalypse is considered to be one of the first mutants in Marvel Comics. It’s very possible that we could see Cable in the film or maybe even Bishop. But considering Singer has already explained the logistics of time travel works in the X-Men Cinematic World, don’t expect to see any time machines.

Singer added that he isn’t sure what kind of tease audiences would see, if any:

“I’m still deciding [if there will be a tease]. Something that happens in this movie causes what’s going to happen in that movie.”

“This movie” obviously is referring to DOFP while “that movie” is referring to X:Men: Apocalypse. Looking at how studios are modelling their superhero properties to the likeness of Marvel Studios, don’t be surprised to see a tease linking the two of some sort. NOT having one would be much more surprising actually.

Finally, Singer confirmed that he will be co-writing and producing the sequel, but is still in talks to direct because he needs to work out his schedule:

“I’m co-writing the story and I’m producing it. I’m negotiating to direct. We’re in the process. We’re trying to figure it out, schedules. My desire would be to direct it.”

X-Men: Days Of Future Past opens in theaters on May 23, 2014.
