The Wachowskis’ Netflix Series ‘Sense8’ Details Revealed

Last March, film duo Andy and Lana Wachowski announced that they were beginning work on a new Netflix series, Sense8, to be released as part of the streaming service toward the end of 2014.

Now the series, which will be a collaboration between the Wachowskis and J. Michael Straczynski, is getting some additional details in terms of overall plot and characters via TVLine.

TVLine has some exclusive details about the story direction the series will take:

The sci-fi drama will focus on eight people scattered around the globe who are connected by a shared “” violent “” vision. (Because it’s never a vision of kittens, is it?) Each episode “” shot in the UK, Seoul, Mumbai, Nairobi, Berlin, Mexico City, San Francisco and Chicago “” will follow the characters’ separate stories, even as one entity tries to bring the octet together and another tries to kill them.

As for just who those united minds may be, the website follows up with a general description of each of the main (and yet uncast) characters viewers will be introduced to:

Among the regulars are: a closeted Mexican telenovela hunk, an Icelandic party girl, a German safe-cracker, a Korean businesswoman, an African bus driver and a transgender American blogger (a la Lana?). Perhaps most intriguing, though, are Jonas, an apparently magic African-American who appears to all of the “visionaries,” and his evil counterpart, Mr. Whispers (arguably the best-named villain since The X-Files’ Cigarette-Smoking Man).

It sounds like we’ll be getting an international and eclectic cast of characters that will meet the “someone-for-everyone” prerequisite demanded by ensemble television shows nowadays. As for the plot, it sounds like it could easily meet somewhere between Heroes and Lost. Production on the 10-episode season one is set to begin in June, with a release date sometime in late 2014.
